My Everyday Makeup Routine (Step-By-Step Guide With Over 40 Pictures And Product Links)

I often get asked how I do my makeup, by friends and strangers. I once did an Instagram video in which I broke down each step of my makeup routine, but I realized that it’s something I never talked about on my blog. So I wanted to share it with you guys and since some people are visual learners, I made sure to take LOTS of pictures. I hope you enjoy each and every one of them. Let’s get right into it.

First, we want to start off with a nice fresh face. For me, I do more of my in depth facial cleansing at night when I’m taking off my makeup and all the oil and dirt from the day. In the morning, I just freshen it up with some witch hazel. I use cotton pads that you can find at Walmart, Target, and even the dollar store. I pour some onto the pad and wipe it all over my face, over my eyes, and down my neck. I feel like it really helps to wake me up too. This one just so happened to also be infused with rose water, but I don’t usually buy this one; It was just the only one left in the store. To be honest, I don’t see a difference between this one and the original plain witch hazel so I wouldn’t sweat it if you’re not able to buy this exact one.

After I’ve freshened up my face, I’ll apply my daily SPF. I have recently been paying more mind to preventing skin damage, especially when it comes to my face. It can just really cause premature aging and even melanoma so it’s really important that we take sun protection seriously. This one is a natural one that I got from Amazon. I try my best to switch as many products as I can to natural ones. I don’t do it for all of them though, as you’ll see, because I still want my products to work a certain way and if I can’t get that with the natural ones, I’ll just use conventional ones.

Next, I put my makeup primer on all over my face. This one is another natural product. I love how it moisturizes and really makes my skin feel alive. It has such a pretty glow to it too, making your face look so dewy. I would say moisturizing your face, in some way, before you put makeup on is so vital! It’ll help make the application process so smooth and will leave you with a more natural look. It’s as if the foundation and makeup is able to melt into your skin instead of just sitting on top. From my experience, if I don’t moisturize, my makeup will look dry and pasty and not at all how you ideally would want it to look.

After I moisturize my face, I then do the same to my lips. I just hate my skin or lips to feel dry and tight so I like to get this done right away. It’ll just irritate me if I don’t😂 I like to use Carmex because it’s easy to layer onto your lipstick later on in the day if it’s starting to wear off. What I often will do is apply it on top of my lipstick mid-day, rub my lips together, and voila you look like you just reapplied new lipstick when really all you did was put a little lip balm on.

Next I think it’s important to note that I always dampen my sponge. I have had days where I was too lazy to do so and just skipped this step which resulted in my makeup looking dry, textured and pasty; basically not how anyone wants their makeup to look. So I would say a damp sponge is a must!

Now we apply foundation. I love, love, love this Milani conceal and perfect one. I have tried to switch to others, in hopes of finding one that’s better and immediately end up regretting it. This one just has such good coverage and without looking unnatural. It covers what it needs to without looking like mask. But it is also very breathable and not heavy at all; to the point that I sometimes forget I even have it on as I carry on with my day. I feel like my skin can breathe and like it’s not at all suffocated with this one (which I know is a big concern when you’re using high coverage makeup).

Next, we move on to concealer. This is my tried and true favorite. It again has such a good coverage but doesn’t look unnatural or heavy. I use the color “natural” in the summer time since I have a little tint from the sun, a little more color. But normally when I’m not tan, I use the shade “vanilla”. I just apply it to the typical place you would apply concealer for contouring: down my nose, underneath my eyes, on my chin, a little triangle on my forehead, and a little above my jaw.

Then just like with the foundation, you want to dab that into your face. With all my makeup, I dab, no brushing across or sweeping (unless we’re doing loose powder). Dabbing your makeup on helps to build coverage instead of accidentally taking some off; which is what happens to me if I try sweeping my makeup across.

Now onto bronzer. This is just a picture of me showing you the one I use: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. It is the best! I again have tried other ones but none have been as pigmented and smooth as this one has. Other brands tend to be too light for me (even when I use their darkest shade) and it ends up looking like you have no bronzer on whatsoever. I’ve also used ones that were so patchy it made me look like I had a skin condition. So I always revert back to this one. It’s just what I need.

I start with applying the bronzer on the top of my forehead. Again, to do this I dab it on. If you were to smear it or try swooping your brush, you could potentially wipe away the foundation from underneath, giving you a patchy look. As a side note, the reason why you would want to wear bronzer is to bring some warmth and color to your face (as foundation can sometimes wash your skin out). It also gives your face depth by defining your facial features; it makes your cheekbones pop, gives a tightened and toned look to your jaw, and it helps define and slim your nose (if that’s what you want). I just wanted to add that in there because I’ve had friends ask me what the purpose of contouring and bronzer is all about.

I then go on to do the hollows of my cheeks to define those cheek bones. I’ve recently been trying a new technique of just using the side bristles of my brush (so not the whole width of it) to help only mark a small thin area of my cheek so it can be more clean and defined rather then if I just powdered my whole cheek brown. I hope that makes sense with the way I’m explaining it.

Next, I go along my jaw line. You want to make sure that for this one, you’re going underneath your face. I use to do it on my face directly which ended up making me look silly since I’d have a brown line all along the bottom of my face. Make sure you keep it tucked in and hidden by focusing it more beneath the jawline.

Next we just bring that bronzer on down your neck. You don’t really want to be adding much bronzer to the brush, if any at all, during this step. This is more so to help blend the bronzer you already have on your face, with your neck so that there will be a smooth transition in color. You wouldn’t want your chest to be white and then your face or neck brown. So bringing the bronzer down your neck just helps to fade it all in so it transitions better.

Now I go on to contour my nose. I just use a small eye shadow brush to apply bronzer to the sides of my nose. I make sure to go all the way up to where my eyebrows start and then down again to the tip of my nose. If you feel that the bronzer is noticeable and just looks like brown markings on your face, don’t worry. Once we apply the setting powder, it’ll help to blend everything out.

Next I like to go in with blush. Some people like to skip blush all together but in my mind, how can you? I love a rosy pink cheek; I think it’s so feminine and cute. This one is from the Honest company so it’s another natural beauty product (you see, I’m trying😄) I again dab this onto the tops of my cheeks. I used to do my whole cheek but that just ended up making me look like a clown, unbeknownst to me. But you make makeup mistakes sometimes, and you look kind of crazy on those days, but you learn from it and get better from there.

Now we set and blend it all in with some loose powder. This big jar was only $6 on Amazon. A friend recommended it to me and so far, so good. I take a medium sized sturdy brush, dip it in the powder, tap the excess on the side of the jar, and then just apply it to the especially oily areas, mainly my t-zone. When it comes to brushes, just use the one that makes the most sense to you and that gives you the results you’re wanting. I’m so certain I’m not using the brushes correctly or as they’re intended to be used but that doesn’t matter to me. I think that as long as you’re happy with the end result, then you’ve done your makeup right. That’s why you don’t really see me specifying the exact brush I use for each step. Just play around with them and see which ones you like to work with best.

This step is a new one for me. I literally just started incorporating lip liner into my routine maybe a week or two ago. I always had a friend who would basically tell me I should use it, I saw Youtube videos of girls who made a dramatic difference just by using it so I thought, why not just try it all ready. So I bought this pink one from Rimmel London. My lipsticks tend to be pinkish nude colors anyways so I figured it would work. You want to choose a lip liner that is a pretty close match to the lipstick you’ll be using it with so it blends together nicely. Again, I find that moisturized lips help make the process so much smoother since the liner can just glide across your lips instead of it being jagged and constantly stopping. I just line the inner and a bit of the outer of my lips and that’s it.

I next apply my lipstick. (Sorry it’s upside down in the picture. I didn’t notice that while I was taking it). This is my favorite lipstick that has been my go-to for probably a year now (maybe a little more too). I’ll try other lipsticks from time to time but again always revert back to this one because it’s just a favorite. I really like the formula in this liquid matte lipstick because it doesn’t feel too tight on my lips. You know how matte lipsticks can be, drying, tight, peeling. But with this one, I get none of that. It looks streaky at first when you put it on, but just allow it to dry and then you’ll have a nice full coverage look.

Next we go on to eyeshadow; one of my favorite parts! I just love how you can be so expressive and versatile when it comes to eyeshadow. It’s fun. This is a cheap palette I bought from Amazon for only $11. The quality is very good so that’s why I continue to order these kind of palettes. This one is called Sweet Mint from the brand Best Land. I’ll have all the products linked below to make it easier for you to find each product.

The first color I used is this light pink. Unfortunately they don’t have their own names so I can’t tell you what each color is called. But I used this blush pink all over the base of my eyelid.

Next I went in with this shimmering burnt sienna color for my lid. You’ll notice that for me I tend to use warm pinks, oranges, and browns. They just tend to suit me best as I am a fall tone, after all This one I just covered my lid with. You may have to go in a few times with the color just to make sure you’re getting the opaqueness that you want.

The color ended up coming in darker than I wanted (it was very red) so I just went in with my beauty blender and tapped it on my lid a bit to help lighten it up. I then used my finger to kind of blend in the concealer that was transferred from the blender. This isn’t something I normally have to do, simply because I usually don’t have mistakes like this. But on this day I just so happened to put too much. It’s a good opportunity though to show you what I do in a situation like this when I needed to correct my makeup.

After I fixed that little mishap, I next went in on the crease with this brown shade. For my crease, I use a small slanted brush (I’ll try finding a link for that too) and then I just dab it into my crease. I don’t add too much color on my brush when doing this because a little goes a long way. So start with a less and you can always add more if you need to.

I also will use the same color that I used for my crease for under my eyes. Our eye shapes will vary so what suits one person won’t suit another and vice versa. For me, I notice that my eyes look best when there’s a little something lining the bottom. I feel like it gives my eyes more balance and just evens out the look for me. So again you can play around with it and see what works best for your unique eye shape.

I’m then going to go in with this sparkle white color and dab that into the inner corners of my eyes. I love adding a little pop of shimmer to this part of the eye because it’s such a small thing but it really makes a difference in your overall look (and it makes you glow a little more😊). As a side note, sorry the pictures aren’t as crisp and clear. Hopefully I can soon invest in a better camera for you guys to see all the sharp details in my pictures. Just know that it’s something I’m working on.

Next I go in with my eyeliner. Since taking these pictures, I’ve recently moved on to using a liquid eyeliner pen. It’s literally the same application and everything. I just feel that with the liquid one, it can be seen better so it’s more noticeable. I sometimes have the issue of this pencil eyeliner being too light that you can’t even tell it’s there. I’ll link both products down below so you can decide for yourself which one you want. What works best for my eyes is for me to just do a flick on the side. My eyes have a natural curvature on the side of my eye (maybe it’s just a wrinkle😂) so I just follow that line. I don’t line the top of my eye which I know may sound weird to some but each and every time I try it, it just ends up looking bad. I’ve done a perfect winged look before but it just didn’t suit my eyes. It ends up making them look really small and my eyes are already on the smaller side. Every time I try to make it work, I never end up liking the way it looks. So I just don’t do it.

Next I like to start prepping my lashes. I love this L’Oreal voluminous primer. It really helps to define, lengthen, and thicken the look of your lashes. I am so glad I tried this about 2 years ago because it has been a game changer and a staple in my routine. I just apply this on my lashes like you normally would with mascara. I make sure they’re coated from the root to the tip. I then give that a second to dry while I move on to eyebrows.

For eyebrows I love to use this E.L.F brow pencil. I like the shade Taupe since it’s a lighter brown and won’t give me such a harsh look to my face. I first like to brush them out just to see what we’re working with today.

I then line the bottom and top of my eyebrow with a thin light line. Remember, less is more and you want to keep it tight meaning that it’s really in your brow. You can always add more product later but with eyebrows it’s hard to take off extra if you just so happen to use too much. So start with a little bit.

I then use an angular brush to fill in my brows with the color that we lined it with. I go up in hair like strokes all throughout my brow. I really want a natural look that’s not too harsh and still gives me a friendly and approachable look.

After I used the angular brush to distribute the product, I then go back in with the pencil to fill in my sparse ends. Remember to keep it light, with gentle soft strokes. You don’t want to use it as if it is a crayon, that would make your brows look too harsh, dark, and angular.

This is a new product that I’ve just been using for about 2 weeks now and I love it! It is the E.L.F clear brow gel (there’s also a side to be used as a clear mascara). I just brush it up throughout my brows and it gives it an even more natural and fresh look for the summer. It helps define the little hairs in your eyebrows and it was really cheap too (I believe it was only $2).

Now that the mascara primer is dry, we go in with the actual mascara. I just coat my lashes with it as you normally would, maybe with one or two coats, depending on how natural or glam I want them to look for that day.

After that I go in with my setting spray. This is a natural one but to be honest with you, I don’t really like it at all. I feel as if it does nothing for the longevity of my makeup and in some cases, I feel like it makes things look worse. The one I would recommend to you is the NYX setting sprays (either matte or the dewy one, both work really well from my experience. It all depends on what look you’re going for when it comes to choosing between the two of those). So I most likely will be ordering one of the NYX ones this week. I just feel that they really help to seal in your makeup so well and helps it from wearing off throughout the day.

And there you have it: Voila, the finished product! I feel that this is a really nice and natural everyday makeup look. If you wanted it to look more dramamtic, my favorite thing to do is to add a plum lipstick. That deep purple will really look nice with the light pinks and it’s just such an easy way to quickly transform your look. (I just feel a bit weird wearing such a dark color during the summer daytime. That is something I would for sure do during the fall and winter season though).

Goals You Can Accomplish Right From Home (July 2020)

Even though we are in quarantine at the moment, there are still some goals I’d like to work on. I’d like to come out of this with a better and more improved version of myself. I want to be proud of the way I used my time at home. Every month I like to make goals for myself so I know what my focus should be for the upcoming weeks. So I wanted to share with you guys what I’ll be working on for this next month in hopes that it’ll maybe help give you all some ideas. These are all things that can be done at home too so we can be safe and still accomplish our goals.

  1. One of my first goals I want to work on is learning how to style my hair in a way that I love. I’ve done straight hair, wavy, natural, but none of them are what I’m wanting. I’ve always used hot tools sparingly to avoid heat damage, but it’s to the point that I think it just may be necessary to start using them daily, at least for touch ups. I’m just tired of having frizzy or flat hair that I feel self conscious of.
  2. I am also working on losing my next 20 pounds. For those who don’t know, I just recently lost 20 pounds this passed April and now I am working on losing some more. This time around I’m going about it by eating clean and of course with the right portions too. I just felt that with calorie counting (which is how I previously lost my weight) it wasn’t teaching me how to eat healthy. You could eat 1500 calories of just chocolate and still lose weight but that’s not setting you up with healthy habits. So I really wanted to take the time to learn how to eat in a healthy way that’ll help me to maintain my weight loss . It would be terrible if I were to gain it all back, especially considering how much time and effort I have to put in just to lose it so learning healthy habits is really important to me.
  3. My next goal is daily walks in the morning. Last month I went back to doing my Pilates (which I absolutely love) but now I’m just in the mood for walking. It doesn’t really matter what I end up doing, my main goal is just to have daily movement. It feels so good and it’s good for you too.
  4. I also want to try and make it a habit of doing an arts and crafts activity with my little toddler everyday. Since she’s not able to spend time with her friends right now, I’m trying to fill that void by spending even more time with her one on one. I’ve been enjoying trying different Pinterest projects with her. They help us spend time together and they help her to be creative as well. I like to use it as our little home school time. I often run out of ideas so if you’re like me and need some help in that department, Pinterest is where it’s at.
  5. Next I want to get back into a regular cleaning routine so that our house is close to spotless a majority of the time. Once quarantine continued on past the one month mark, I started to get burnt out, sad, and tired so I didn’t have my normal motivation and energy that usually helps me to stay on top of things. Now that I’ve accepted our current situation and am working with it, I’m starting to get on top of cleaning once again. Clothes are being hung up soon after they are washed, dishes are getting done on the daily, I’m basically back baby. So for this next month, I just want to keep that momentum going and continue to tackle all of the daily chores. When the house is clean, then I am happy (and so is the hubby😄) so I want to maintain that in July.
  6. I mentioned this one in a previous post, but I want to work on reading regularly. Ideally this would be something that I would do everyday. I struggle with this simply because there is so much I like to get done during my free time (and sometimes need to get done) that reading often gets put on last on the list. But I want to at least start with 10 or 15 minute sessions just to get me into the habit (and into the book) and then we can increase our time from there.

These are my goals for July. This month’s list is on the shorter side but I guess it’s because there is only so much I can do while in quarantine or I already accomplished my other goals. Why I Won’t Try Intuitive Eating Ever Again

Intuitive eating. It’s a phrase we’ve all grown quite familiar with as we see it all across the internet: on YouTube, blogs, pinterst, and even in books. Although there are so many people who say they live by it, let me tell you, as someone who tried it twice and listened to all the intuitive eating principles, why I will never be going back to that way of eating ever again. It’s not what it seems.

I first tried intuitive eating about 2.5 years ago. I have always been the type that needs to be cautious of the amount I eat because I can easily gain weight. I’ve always eaten really healthy ever since I was 12 and understood that certain foods make you feel good while other foods can make you feel sluggish and sick. I’m the type of girl who loves vegetables; like I will order a salad at a restaurant while my family jokingly rolls their eyes at me. But that is actually what I want to order because it is actually what I prefer. So you would think someone like me with such a healthy palate would have no problem staying thin, right? Wrong. Like I said, even with eating 80% clean food, I’ll still gain weight if I’m not watchful of my portions. It can be a lot of work always having to control your food intake so when I heard of intuitive eating, it sounded like a dream.

What Is Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive eating promotes that you can listen to your body, eat what you want, and still maintain a healthy weight while at the same time having food freedom. The founders of intuitive eating do make sure to say that you may gain weight when practicing it and that you may not look the way you want to, but they say that’s OK because your body may not even want to be that lean. OK. I understood that and accepted it. I still of course hoped that I would lose weight or at the very least maintain. The intuitive eating philosophy is that you can eat as much sweets or junk as your craving because after months of that, you’ll eventually become sick of it and no longer want to eat so much of it if any at all. So I tried it.

I am a big chocolate lover. For example, some people will say they can’t finish a chocolate cake because it’s “too rich”. I on the other hand can eat that slice, and another, and another. And I won’t feel sick to my stomach. I seem to have a high tolerance for sweets because I can eat a lot without feeling any negative repercussions. So as I’m going along with my intuitive eating journey, I’m eating lots and lots of sweets. And naturally with such a caloric surplus, I’m gaining weight. But I’m not sweating it too much because I’m told that eventually I’ll get sick of sweets and the weight will “stabilize”. Well, I never got sick of sweets and I ended up gaining 30 pounds! Mind you, I was able to maintain my previous weight loss for years and years. It wasn’t until I tried intuitive eating that I gained all this weight. And also keep in mind that I’m a petite 5’3 so even 10 pounds is noticeable on me. A 10 pound weight gain is enough to get people to ask me if I’m pregnant. That’s how apparent weight gain is on me.

It Made Me Gain Weight… Again😒

So I finally stopped because I wasn’t about to gain anymore than that. I looked terrible, felt terrible about myself, and still could eat many more sweets. On top of that, one of the intuitive eating principles is that if you don’t want to get any movement in for the day, you don’t have to. It’s all according to how you’re feeling. Well during all that weight gain I was feeling pretty miserable and downright depressed so I didn’t feel like moving, and I didn’t. Not one bit.

So I stopped that way of eating and went on a caloric deficit in order to lose the weight I had gained. I went on to lose 20 of the pounds I had put on. With having such a negative experience, you would think that I would bid good riddens to intuitive eating and just be done with it. But no. I saw more youtubers who promoted intuitive eating and praised it so much. So I concluded that it was my fault that I gained 30 pounds, that I must’ve been doing something wrong because it worked for all these people. Right after losing my weight that took me 6 months to get rid of, I decided to give it another try. I thought maybe I just wasn’t listening to my body enough. But guess what happend this time. After doing it for a month, eating really healthy, and working out regularly, I still managed to gain 10 pounds. I gained half of what took me 6 months to lose all because of intuitive eating! Imagine how frustrated that made me! So that’s when I decided to call it quits for good with this way of eating.

It’s Not Worth It

And I know what some of you advocates for intuitive eating are thinking, “you didn’t try it long enough”. Some believe that you gain weight in the first stages but then end up losing some and maintaining at that level once your body adjusts to this new way of eating and so will your eating habits. My answer to that is: it’s just not worth it to me, not at all. I don’t want to have to gain 30+ pounds just so I can eat as much as I want. For me, I rather restrict my portions of sweets but still keep the physique that to me is most attractive. I don’t care about eating all the food if it’s going to make me put on so much weight that I feel self conscious and embarrassed to go out. I love food but I’m good with smaller portions. They still satisfy. I think for me, I will always be the type to want all the chocolate. I just don’t feel grossed out by eating a lot of it. I feel full but once that fullness goes away, I could go for me. To me, that’s no way to live. It’s not teaching myself good eating habits either.

My conclusion of the matter is that intuitive eating only works for those who 1) have never had a problem with weight their whole life or 2) the people who don’t care about weight gain. I noticed that for the youtubers who raved about this way of eating and were thin, had always been thin. They had never had a problem with their weight. So of course eating in a way that just maintains that is not going to cause a problem. And those who weren’t concerned about gaining weight tended to be in the body positive community and they said it themselves that they didn’t care if their weight just kept going up and up and up. I do care so that won’t work for me.

In Conclusion

I think intuitive eating can work for a small group of people but not everyone. I, of course, agree with eating what you are craving but in moderation, having it portioned out. That’s how you can maintain your physique without gaining weight. Having a cookie is fine as long as you only have one or two; but that’s not what intuitive eating preaches. With that way of eating, you’re not supposed to worry about serving size. I think we’ve come to a point in society that we don’t want to put any restrictions on ourselves, even with food, even if it is in our best interests.

How To Grow Your Hair Fast (Grow 1 Inch A Month)

While we’re in quarantine, I’ve been looking for ways that I could better myself and work on some goals right from home. One of those things for me is the health of my hair and length. If you guys have read my previous posts, then you’ll know that I’ve glowed up when it comes to my weight and my skin but the one thing I’ve never really worked on is my hair. I’ve always had trouble with it: I never understood how to style it, what it wants, or how to keep it from frizzing up. So I wanted to take time to learn it and to care for it too. My goals were to transform my locks to be glossy and shiny and to help my hair grow long too. I’d like for it to reach to the middle of my back and to help thicken it up if possible. Last month was my first time sticking to my new hair regime and I’m happy to say that by the end of it, my hair grew a whole inch! That’s fast for me. Of course, it’ll take probably 6 months to a year before I start seeing a dramatic transformation with my hair. But I thought that in the meantime I can share with you all what I’m doing that’s helping my hair grow faster and healthier too.

The first major change I’ve made is extending the time period between my wash days. Before, I’d wash my hair about every 2 days and if I did 3, that was a good week. But now, especially because we’re just staying home, I’ll postpone washing my hair for up to 7 days! That’s the longest I’ve ever gone especially considering that I have an oily scalp. There are some weeks when I have to do it sooner at 5 days simply because we’ll have some really hot days here in California so I not only have oil on my scalp but sweat too. (Sorry if that’s too gross.) So I will wash it a bit sooner. But for the most part, I try to extend it between 5-7 days. I like to use dry shampoo daily to help my hair not lay flat from all the oils. Usually for the last days before I wash, I have to style my hair differently in braids or even wear a hat because that’s the only thing that will look good at that point.

The next major change I’ve made is to soak my hair in oil the night before I wash it. I try to sleep in that oil till the next morning so my hair can soak in as much as possible. Sometimes, though, I’m not in the mood to sleep with it so I’ll just leave it in my hair during the day for a few hours and then wash it before I go to bed. I soak my hair in a mixture of castor and coconut oil. I’ll go through my hair in sections, saturating each layer from root to ends until it’s drenched in oil. I also make sure to rub it into my temple areas where our hair is usually thinner. I then massage it all into my scalp for 10 minutes to really get the blood flowing. Then I twist it all together in a bun or I’ll braid it so it can really cover my ends.

When it comes time to wash, I’ve just been using my conventional shampoo and conditioner. But I recently bought some natural ones that I’m sure will encourage hair growth even more. So we’ll see how that goes. I’ll just wash it as I normally would (in fact I do it twice), the difference though is that I’ll rinse it in vinegar and cold water. The apple cider vinegar helps to strip any build up from your scalp that could otherwise clog your hair follicles (which after a week without washing and the oil soak, there surely is buildup). When your scalp is unclogged, your hair is able to grow to its full potential since nothing is blocking it. The apple cider vinegar acts similar to hair cleansing washes that you’ll find on amazon but it’s all natural and cheap. I then go on to rinse my hair in cold water since that helps to seal your hair cuticle shut and gives your hair a glossy look.

When it comes to styling, I only use heat on my hair once a week and try to not use it at all if my hair is looking good on it’s own. (But I typically do end up using it at least once during the week.) I try not to brush until I need to since it takes away my curls and straightens my hair (for me it sometimes can add frizz too so I try to avoid it).

Sticking to this regime has helped my hair to grow a good amount this passed month. I really look forward to seeing the growth and shine that will hopefully come 6 months from now and then even a year. My next step is to get regular trimmings of any split ends that may come up. Now that things are starting to open up again, I’ll probably go for one soon. I hope this guide is able to help you guys with your own hair goals. 19 Ways To Stay Busy At Home During Quarantine

One of the hardest parts for me with staying home during quarantine is just finding enough things to do to keep me busy. With lock down now lasting 3 months, I’ve been rotating through a list of things that I can do during my time at home. I wanted to share them with you guys for those times when you’ve maybe run out of things to do and can’t think of anymore. Here are my go-to’s:

  1. Adult coloring books– These are so entertaining for me that they’ll keep me busy for hours! It’s also a nice way to unwind and relax at the end of the day while also being creative. Amazon has a so many to choose from. I’ll try linking the one I got, along with the markers, down below.
  2. Spa day– You can take a day or even just an evening to pamper yourself. You can take a bath, do a hair or face mask, do your nails, anything you’d like to give yourself a little extra love and feel better.
  3. Bake new things/ try new recipes– This is one the whole family can take part of. Kids can help with measuring and mixing and everyone can help with eating it.😁 This activity can possibly keep you and the kids busy for a whole afternoon.
  4. Arts and crafts with kids– I have a toddler girl so I’ve been trying to do one arts and crafts project with her everyday. Pinterest is full of amazing ideas and they often will include common household objects like paper plates, paint, and things like that; so no need to have to go out and buy new materials if you don’t want to. My daughter loves art so she’ll stay busy with these activities for at least 2 hours. It’s such a good way for kids to get creative and use their imaginations too.
  5. Exercise or daily walk– I’ve been trying to make sure to do something active everyday. I’ll either go on a walk with the family or do some Pilates videos at home (they’re free on YouTube). It always makes me feel good, it’s healthy for us, and a lot of the time my daughter will want to join in so it’ll help encourage healthy habits for the kids too.
  6. Weight loss goals– This is something I’ve been focusing on while in quarantine. It’s something that can be fun while you track your progress and find new ways of cooking food for low calorie options. And in the end you’ll most likely feel better about yourself and be more confident.
  7. Journal– Quarantine has been hard for us all so I’ve been finding it especially helpful to journal my thoughts and feelings nearly every day. It helps me to focus on what I can fix and to put things in the right perspective. Journaling helps me to see things as they really are and to not blow them out of proportion.
  8. Work on your makeup skills– Since we have more time on our hands, what better time to try and learn some new techniques from the makeup gurus? I’ve been taking more time when I put my makeup on in the mornings and just enjoying the process. I also try to play around with eye shadow and work with new colors. It can be fun and you can end up finding something that will become a new makeup staple for you.
  9. Knitting or sewing– This is something I did a lot of at the start of quarantine (but now I blog) it can be so nice to make things with your hands and to maybe even gift them to friends.
  10. Make care packages for those in need– It could be for friends or maybe for someone you don’t even know that well but think they would enjoy one. It could be a warm home cooked meal, toys for kids, essential supplies, pampering basket for new moms, anything really. There’s just so much we can do and in the end it’ll help us to feel better too when we give back to others.
  11. Read!– So many of us have forgotten about the simple enjoyment of reading a book or we just put it aside in exchange for highly stimulating activities. I know I did. I’m trying to get back into reading. It’s something that can help expand our thinking and vocabulary, it can take us away on new adventures right from our own home, and if it’s a really good book, it can keep us entertained for hours.
  12. Nap– With all that’s going on in the world, it can really be taxing on us emotionally and mentally. Taking a nap can help us to reset and take a break from it all. Often times we’ll wake up with a clearer mind and maybe have new solutions to problems we’ve been struggling with. We always say we’re tired but with quarantine, we don’t need to be.
  13. Picnic– Making sure we get about an hour of outdoors time everyday has been life changing during this lock down and a picnic can help you do just that. It can help get you out from just being indoors all day and the sunlight can help brighten your mood and make you feel more energetic (at least it does for me🌞).
  14. Pool time– If you guys happen to have a pool, you can take advantage of these hot summer days and turn it into a pool day. That can help take up a big portion of your day, and as a bonus, it also makes the kids super sleepy so they’re sure to be more calm afterwards and maybe even take a nap.
  15. Organize– You can use this time to organize those areas in your home that you’ve been wanting to get to but just have never had time for previously. Pinterest has so much inspiration for organizing. I recently just gave my pantry a Pinterest-like makeover. Here’s the article if you need help getting started.
  16. Clean/declutter– You can work on any areas that are starting to get hectic. Now is a good time to clean your home from head to toe as a fresh start. It may be easier to maintain after you’ve done so.
  17. Try starting on those projects that you’ve been wanting to– Have you always wanted to write a book? Start a blog? Or an Etsy shop? Now would be a good time to get those dreams started.
  18. Learn a new instrument– Is there one that you’ve always wanted to learn to play? For me, I’ve always favored the ukulele. It has such a sweet, whimsical sound. You can take the time now to try and learn your favorite instrument.
  19. Soap making– This is a hobby that I still love but haven’t done in a long time. There are so many designs and ways you could make your soaps. There are some you can make to look like gem stones, you can hide a small toy in the center for kids, or you can go the crunchy route and make all natural/organic soaps. The possibilities are endless.

I know quarantine can be challenging (I definitely have those days). What helps me is to try and keep a positive mindset and to keep myself busy throughout the day. It’s OK if you need some days to just reset and not really do much, I need those days too. But overall, I hope this article is able to help you stay busy and maybe even give you a few fun distractions as well.

To Home-school Or Not To Home-school

My daughter is now 3.5 years old so I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what her education will look like. To some, that may sound premature but believe me, there is a lot to think about and the years just pass by so quickly. She’s of age now that she can start attending preschool so will I have her enroll or keep her home till kindergarten? Will I put her in public school when she’s of age or will I teach her from home? If I put her in public school, which one will I choose? Do I need to sign up early due to there being a waiting list? Or if I home-school her, which program will I choose? Am I even capable of being the one who’s responsible for teaching her? You see, there are so many things to consider! These are things you may not even consider until you are a parent.

Personally for me, I loved going to school! I enjoyed all my school years and didn’t really have a problem getting bullied at all. From my perspective, all us kids mostly got along and we’d have a good time cracking jokes throughout the day. Everyone was generally kind to one another and I just always had a good time at school. I would always look forward to going back during summer vacation. So I don’t have a negative experience from school really at all. That’s what makes me want to put my daughter in public school, so she could hopefully enjoy her experience as I did. So why would I consider the alternative, teaching her from home then?

A Cause For Concern

I don’t have to tell you guys about all the crazy world events that are going on right now. It can be scary and even down right dangerous at times. I don’t want to get into details because this is not an article meant to depress anyone, but read any news headlines and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I’d be lying if I said those things don’t worry me and make me hesitate putting my daughter in the public school system. It’s also disheartening to know that my sweet girl can be influenced by negative people by going to school. But of course, I don’t want to keep her in a bubble. My goal is to help her develop a strong enough character and a reasoning mind that she can think for herself and not just follow after what everyone else is doing.

There are some home school programs that allow you to outsource some classes so that your child can actually be around other students and in more of a traditional school setting. They also have field trips for those same reasons. I just don’t know how often that is. I have a home school mom friend who I’ll be talking to about this. But if I was able to have my daughter attend somewhat of normal classes outside the home a few times a week, then that would probably be enough to win me over into choosing that route. In that way, you’d have the best of both worlds; the flexibility of homeschooling along with the social aspect of public school.

My concern with home-school is that it will only be me and my daughter at home alone and she’ll be in front of the computer screen all day long. That’s no way to live; at least that’s not what I want for us. I believe that my daughter needs to be around people of her age too; it’s such a different dynamic than just being around adults all day. I also feel that she needs to see those other kids in person and not just through a computer screen; it’s just not the same. If I am somehow able to still get a good amount of that social activity for my daughter while homeschooling, then I will have no problem going down that path. But if not, then I’m sorry, I’ll have to put her in public. And I say sorry because the majority of my friends are either homeschooling or they plan on it. I would love to do the same but not at the expense of my daughter being able to socialize with other kids multiple times a week (and not just once a month).

Now what are my concerns regarding public school? I worry, like I said, about any negative influence that may impact my daughter, any rude teachers that will talk down to her (I’ve had my fair share of that), and just if there are things taught that I personally don’t agree with. Often times, teachers I’ve had would try to push their political views or their opinions on us as students and a lot of time we’d take it as fact. We trusted that our teacher knew more than us. I don’t want teachers pushing their beliefs on my daughter; I rather they just taught the facts. I know of course she’ll be exposed to different ideas in life, I don’t oppose that. I do however have a problem when opinions are taught as if they’re actual fact. Children are just too young to decipher between what is true and what is someone’s own feelings on a matter.

In Conclusion

There is just so much to think about and like I said I’m still trying to take everything into consideration. After I talk to my homeschooling friend, I’ll have more information to help weigh out my decision but in the mean time it’s still up in the air. What do you guys think? What I Eat In A Day For Weight Loss (1530 calories)

I have always been on the thicker side. When I was younger, I would’ve been considered chubby. But since then, I’ve lost a good amount of weight and would now be considered thick; I’ve got some extra meat on me but I’m not necessarily chunky. But I don’t want to be. I feel so uncomfortable with with carrying around my extra weight. So after taking a few months off from weight loss, I’ve decided to start it back up again. My goal is to lose at least 20 pounds and maybe even more. It all depends on how I feel at that point. I know it’ll be a process and probably something that I’ll have to stick with even into the winter months. But either way, it’s something that I want to get done. It’s been a month of me eating at a calorie deficit so I just wanted to share with you guys what I’ve been eating. Maybe it’ll help to give you some inspiration if you’re getting bored with the foods you’re eating. I’ve been switching it up all the time though (just because there’s such a wide variety of foods I want to eat) so I think I may include one of these “What I Eat In A Day” posts at least once a month. So without further ado, let’s get right into it.


For this day, I decided to have one of my favorite meals. This is my own version of a breakfast burrito (I know it’s not rolled up like one, but you get the point). You may not like the way I do it so feel free to make any changes to yours that you wish. This is how I made mine:

  • whole wheat tortilla (110 cals.)
  • 1 tbsp. mayo (90 cals.)
  • 2 sunny side eggs (140 cals.)
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (110 cals.)
  • 1/2 an avocado, or 60g (100 cals.)
  • 2 tbsp. Trader Joes Cowboy Caviar, corn salsa (25 cals.)
  • 5 Bread and butter pickle chips, sweet (20 cals.)
    • Total 598 Calories

Snack Time

Next, I was feeling the need for something sweet. I wasn’t necessarily hungry but I just wanted something to satisfy my sweet tooth. For me, one of the best things for that is hot chocolate😋 I made mine all fancy just for you guys so it could be more aesthetically pleasing, so enjoy😄 For this fancy hot chocolate of mine you’ll need:

  • Hot Cocoa Packet (I used a Target brand) (110 cals.)
  • 6 oz. Almond milk (30 cals.)
  • Whipped Cream (45 cals)
    • Total: 185 calories

While I was drinking my hot chocolate, I felt like it needed something more. It felt empty and incomplete. So I decided to pair it with a chocolate chip cookie and that hit the spot😋

  • 1 Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie (170 cals.)
    • Total: 170 calories


I know what you’re thinking “wait, no lunch?” and the answer is no. I just wasn’t hungry on this day come lunch time. Normally I eat my breakfast at around 8am and that keeps me full till 2pm on average. So come dinner time, I may just eat something light or I’ll wait till it’s 7pm or 8pm to eat again. I’m not restricting myself by any means. I still get the same amount of calories in. But just some days I’m not as hungry. So for this dinner I decided to have:

  • 1 cup Kale Salad Mix (140 cals.)
  • 1 Italian Sausage link (180 cals.)
  • 1 up Sweet Potatoes (114 cals.)
  • 1/4 Avocado (50 cals.)
    • Total: 484 Calories

That completes my full day of eating. Like I said, everyday is a bit different with what I eat but at the end of the day I make sure I’m still at the same calorie deficit. My Morning Routine For A Productive Day (Quarantine Edition)

Quarantine is rough. Trust me I know it well and I know a lot of you have been feeling it too. I try to stay positive by controlling what I can and making the most of things. My number one way of doing this is starting my morning right with a good routine. If I get my day started on the right foot, it’ll (usually) keep me going for the rest of the day. But if I quickly go to the TV after waking, then it’s so hard for me to get myself motivated to do anything! It’s OK to have some lazy days, especially during this quarantine. But for days where you want to be more productive and get things done, this is the routine that helps me with that.

Wake Up Sleepy Head

First things first, we wake up that beautiful head of yours. My husband has been able to stay home longer in the mornings before he has to go to work. So he’ll usually wake up first along with my daughter while I sleep in a few minutes more (Nice!😉). So right now I’d say I wake up between 6:30-7am. That’s sleeping in for us given that the first few years of my daughter’s life, she would routinely wake us up at about 5am most days😳. So I’ll take any bit of extra sleep I can get. My daughter will actually wake me up most days with a yogurt pouch in her hand, asking if I can open it for her. 😂Some things never change. So I open that yogurt, brush my teeth, and help my daughter freshen up from the night before. Then we head downstairs with my husband.

He’s usually watching the news or making himself some coffee at this point. We spend the time that we can with him in the morning before he has to head out for work; which usually is about half an hour. And then he’s off. At this point my daughter and I get on with our routine together.

Work It Girl 😉

Now this is the part that really gets me going…my morning workout! I’ve been doing Pilates videos from Youtube; more specifically I do Blogilates. I’ve been doing her 28 day summer challenge (I’m into my third week now) and I have been loving it! I used to do her videos for years before I had my girl but I just decided to put it on pause and do other types of exercise. I forgot just how much I love Pilates! Especially with the Blogilates videos (by Cassey Ho); she just has such a good and upbeat energy. She really does help to turn my mood around.

I’ve been seeing such great results with doing her workouts and I’m so excited about it. I plan on sharing it all in a separate post where I recap my experience with her 28 day challenge. I just love how graceful and low impact Pilates is but at the same time it’s very effective. You will see a change in your body for sure and there’s just always ways you can make the moves even more challenging but I digress. The workouts I’ve been doing are half an hour long (but that also includes the warm up and stretching). I always feel so good after I finish it and I just really feel accomplished. It’s not easy working out 6 days for a week; it’s something I’ve actually never done before. So it just makes me so proud of myself to see that I’m really accomplishing this goal and in fact am almost done with it. It really sets the right tone for my day and it makes me want to cross more things off my list. As a side note, my daughter often times will want to exercise with me so she’ll imitate the moves right alongside. So it can help encourage your kids to get moving too which always makes us feel good as parents.

What Time Is It? Breakfast Time!🥓

After my workout and getting some movement into my day, your girl gets hungry. I first put some cartoons on for my toddler. She gets a certain amount of screen time each day and it’s usually done in the morning. She can choose to either play games on the phone or laptop, watch a movie, or cartoons on TV. I will admit that I’ve been allowing her to watch a little more during this quarantine. I don’t like that but I’m allowing it right now because this time has been hard enough and we often run out of things to do or just get bored doing the same things. I’m not saying this to defend or explain myself, I don’t feel a need to. But I did want to share that truth because I want other moms to know that you’re not alone in doing the same thing (if in fact you are). We can be so hard on ourselves as parents (I know I’m usually brutal on myself which is something I’m working on) so don’t feel bad if you are allowing a little more screen time. This is a difficult time and if a little more TV can help, then I think it’s worth using.

So I’ll sit with my daughter for a bit while we watch cartoons together. Afterwards, I’ll head to the kitchen to make myself some breakfast. (Just so you know, my daughter always tells me she’s not hungry at this point. Keep in mind that she did have her yogurt first thing in the morning. I always ask if she wants me to make her something and she always says no at this time.) I have to be honest with you guys, this is my favorite part of the day. I love to eat my meals slow and relaxed so I can fully taste it and enjoy the meal. So after I’ve made my delicious breakfast (which a lot of times is eggs, toast, avocado, and tea on the side with a bite of chocolate.) I sit on the table while the sunshine beams down on me and warms my soul. I put on the latest Youtube Video from one of my favorites. I usually only watch one or two and then I like to either journal or pray while the sun shines through. (I love sun light, can you tell?) It’ll just be things I’m concerned about, whatever’s on my mind, or what I’m especially grateful for. I love this time because it helps me reset and regroup my thoughts and it really helps me feel recharged for the day. But after this nice relaxing breakfast, it’s time to do my makeup.

I then head upstairs back to our room where I get ready for the day. I’ll do my makeup routine which I usually like to take my time with, it’s almost therapeutic for me. And especially with us just staying home, why rush? So I like to take it easy, I’ll prep my face, put on my diffuser on with essential oils and at this time I’ll either pray some more, listen to an article on my phone, watch another Youtube video or put some music on. It really all depends on what I feel I’m needing at the moment.

After doing my makeup, I’ll put my outfit on. I like to have fun with fashion, even if we are just staying home so I always like to put something cute on. If we go out for groceries or a walk, I might dress up a bit more just because there will be people. If I’m just staying home, it’ll be something more casual. I’ve been really loving to accessorize lately too. I feel like it just really levels up any outfit. I’ll put a headband, headscarf, or some hair clips. I’ll always have earrings on (my default are hoops) and then a choker necklace for sure. To me, fashion is an art form and it just makes me so happy when my outfit coordinates so well. I of course then go on to take a picture for Instagram just so I can document it.

So there you have it. My morning routine during quarantine. I feel like having a good morning can really help start your day off right and then hopefully that trickles down towards the rest of your day. Of course there are things that happen throughout the day that are out of your control but it can help to reign in the things we can so that we can hopefully guide our day into the direction we want it to go.
